Alternative Opening of the Academic Year

This spring the VU announced plans for budget cuts of over 30 million euros within the next two years. This will mean cuts to education and research, and most of all it will mean cutting 300 to 400 full time jobs from VU support personnel.

These plans raise important questions: Are these hasty decisions? Why such enormous amounts? Which is more important: education and research, or continued spending on building a new campus? And why is the VU taking such far-reaching measures, even ahead of the Dutch parliament’s final approval of the anticipated budget cuts?

It is time to ask these questions and start the debate.

We will do just that on Monday, September 5th during the Alternative Opening of the Academic Year.

We hope you will join us for this informative meeting!
